Maplewood: Man suspected of shooting his son expected to recover from injuries By Sarah Homer shorner©pioneerpress.com TwinCities.com-Pioneer Press Posted: TwinCities.com An elderly man suspected of fatally shooting his son in Maplewood is expected to recover from his self-inflicted stab wounds, police say. Pang Vang was taken to Regions Hospital with knife wounds to his chest and neck after members of the Ramsey County SWAT team found him and his deceased son,Chue Vang, in their home on the 1800 block of County Road B Monday afternoon. The 84-year-old was listed in fair condition Tuesday and will be taken in to custody upon his release from the hospital, said Maplewood Police Chief Paul Schnell. "We have investigators attempting to interview him today to try and ascertain the circumstances of what happened,"Schnell said."We hope to finalize and submit our case to the county attorney's office for charges as early as tomorrow." Vang faces possible charges of murder in the second degree in the death of his 36-year-old son. The father of nine adult children lived at the Maplewood home with his wife and son,Schnell said. Chue Vang owned the home. He and his father had reportedly been engaged in some type of ongoing conflict prior to the deadly dispute Monday. Pang Vang also had a history of making threats to family members,Schnell said, adding that none of his comments ever led his family to believe the elderly man posed a risk to their safety. "We know he made threats in the past but nothing that would have predicted this kind of outcome,"Schnell said."Unfortunately I don't know that we will ever know clearly or at least in a way that would ever be understandable what ultimately made(Pang Vang)take the action he took." The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's office determined Chue Vang died from a gunshot wound to the chest. Family of the father and son are still reeling from what's happened,Schnell said. "I think they feel it's beyond comprehension to be in this position...just very difficult,"Schnell said. Sarah Homer can be reached at 651-228-5539.
