Details:St. Paul-based HealthEast Care System is preparing to carry out a major interior and
exterior renovation of its clinic on the Woodwinds Hospital campus in Woodbury, converting it
into the new home of its Cancer Care Center.
The clinic, which has expanded several times since its opening, has been deemed too small
to meet the needs of the quickly growing Woodbury market,so HealthEast is splitting up its
services and moving them to other sites, including a new, 18,300-square-foot medical office
building elsewhere in Woodbury.
The clinic's pediatrics and family medicine services will go to the new building along
Woodbury Drive, which is scheduled to open in October, with other services shifting to the
Woodwinds Oak Center.
Meanwhile, the original clinic will undergo a transformation into the new home of the
HealthEast Cancer Care Center, which is currently housed at St.John's Hospital on Beam
Avenue in Maplewood.
The move will include setting up radiation therapy capabilities at Woodwinds, made possible
by obtaining an exception from the state moratorium on the expansion of such services,
HealthEast Director of Network Development Len Kaiser said.
"We identified the Woodbury clinic as the best place to create a comprehensive cancer
center,"he said."IYs connected to a hospital,iYs in a soothing natural setting and is easily
accessible."
