Be sure to get to Maplewood's "Light It Up" fireworks display at the 50 -acre Hazelwood Park in Maplewood before dusk, so you
can unfold some chairs or spread out a blanket and settle in for the show.
"It's one of the best fireworks displays in the metro area," city clerk Karen Haag says.
This year's "Light it Up" Fourth of July celebration will be held from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. with free admission at Hazelwood Park,
located at 1663 County Road C. The park is south of Beam Avenue and east of Hazelwood Street, not far from Maplewood Mall.
Along with the fireworks display at dusk, participants can catch a live performance by the Good for Gary cover band, featuring
hits from Lady Gaga, Eminem, Usher, Rihanna and more. Ranked one of hottest top 40 cover bands in the Twin Cities, Good
for Gary will start performing at 6:30 p.m. And there will be plenty of food options for those who work up an appetite on the
dance floor.
Haag says food trucks will be offering everything from corn dogs, tacos and mini donuts to gyros, egg rolls and gluten-free
treats. The Dog House Bar & Grill — co-sponsor of the event — will be selling adult beverages as well. Please note, outside
coolers will not be allowed in the park.
Those with little ones in tow can take advantage of the giant inflatable play structures on site. With a $3 wristband, children and
adults who are children at heart will have unlimited access to all nine inflatables.
For something a bit more adventurous, there will be two Millennium Obstacle Courses and an 18 -foot "Hot Lava Water Slide."
"Light it Up" goers will find plenty of clearly labeled parking available near Hazelwood Park.
The 31 st annual Falcon Woods neighborhood parade takes off at 10 a.m. from 1838 Moore St. in Falcon Heights on Saturday,
July 4.
Organizer Linda Barnes says the police and the fire department will be on hand to lead the parade on its four -block route, and
the entire affair should last about 20 minutes. Stick around afterward to hang out and chat.
Kids will be able to get up close and personal with fire trucks and squad cars on hand. Decorate a bike or wagon and participate
in the parade.
