A superintendent search that began last fall officially came to an end Tuesday, May 26, when the District 622 School Board
approved an employment contract with Christine Osorio to be the district's new superintendent.
The vote to approve a three-year contract with Osorio, beginning July 1, was unanimous. Her first-year salary will be
$182,000 for the 2015-2106 school year and $185,640 for the 2016-2017 school year. The district and Osorio will need to
agree upon a salary for the third year of her contract following an employment review by an April 1, 2017, deadline.
Board chair Theresa Auge said Osorio's salary is below average when compared to neighboring districts.
Superintendent Patty Phillips' pay this year is $183,033 after 10 years on the job.
After approving Osorio's employment contract, board member Amy Coborn said while the board had issues with the initial
superintendent search process with the national search firm School Exec Connect, the second go -around yielded two "top-

notch" candidates.
The board announced its two finalists two weeks ago -- Dr. Debra Henton, superintendent of North Branch Area Public
Schools, and Osorio, chief academic officer for neighboring St. Paul Public Schools.
At a special meeting Tuesday, May 18, board members picked Osorio as their top pick for superintendent in a 7-0 vote, and
then approved a motion to enter into contract negotiations with her.
"I'm really excited about the outcome," Coborn said Tuesday.
Board member Steve Hunt agreed with Coborn, and added that the superintendent search the second time around "grew us
as a board."
Auge thanked staff, teachers, parents and other community members for their help in the superintendent search
subcommittee's process of hiring a new superintendent to replace retiring Patty Phillips.
"Your input was extremely valuable," she said.
Osorio briefly addressed the board at Tuesday's meeting after its members voted to approve her employment contract.
"I cannot tell you how excited I am.... It is with great honor that I accept this responsibility," she said.
Patty Phillips' last day with the district will be June 30. Osorio will take the helm the following day.
Osorio began her career in education in the Peace Corps where she was a teacher -trainer in the Republic of Kiribati, an
island nation in the Pacific Ocean. She has worked in the St. Paul School District since 1997 in a variety of positions, and has
been a member of the superintendent's cabinet since 2011.
She has a superintendent's license and holds a master's degree in curriculum and instruction and license in K-12 education
from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. She also holds bachelor's degrees in English as a second language (K-12), and
elementary education (K-6) as well as in Spanish.
