On Saturday, May 2, the county will hold Warrant Resolution Day, where individuals with non-violent misdemeanor active arrestwarrants can getthem resolved. Judges, prosecutors, and public defenders will be presentto help resolve the warrants promptly -- mostwithin a few hours. The eventwill be held at Aldrich Arena, 1850 White Bear Ave. in Maplewood, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 2. It's the first event of its kind to be held in Ramsey County. However, it is modeled after similar efforts that have happened nationwide. A warrant calls for the immediate arrest of a person and is issued by a judge. It's issued as a result of a suspected commission of a crime and/or failure to follow a court order. Warrants do not expire or go away and remain on official records until resolved. The 4,500 active misdemeanor warrants come from offenses like traffic violations, disorderly conduct and petty theft. Active warrants are searchable by an individual's name online atwww.RamseyWarrants.us. "Being arrested because of a misdemeanor warrant is costly, inconvenient and embarrassing," said Ramsey County Sheriff Matt Bostrom in a statement. "It can mean spending a night or two in jail, having a vehicle towed and impounded, and missing work or school. This event will help people who come forward to avoid those burdens later." Though those who wish to attend Warrant Resolution Day may simply show up, the county is encouraging people to make appointments to speed up the process. People can make appointments by calling 651-266-9320 or signing up online atwww.RamsevWarrants.us. Attendees must bring with them photo ID such as a driver's license or identification card and contact information of another person for verification purposes. -- Patrick Larkin http://www. bul I eti n-news.com/articles/2015/04/26/ram sey-county-hol d -m ay -2 -warrant -resolution -event 1 /1
