Minnesota Transportation Alliance presented Maplewood Mayor Nora Slawik with a 2015 Transportation Advocate Award at
its annual membership meeting Wednesday, Nov. 4, in Cannon Falls. This distinguished award is given to an individual who
has shown outstanding leadership and commitment on behalf of improving Minnesota's transportation infrastructure.
As recognized by the Minnesota Transportation Alliance, Slawik is a "regional leader" on transit initiatives, serving on the Rush
Line Task Force in addition to serving as the Chair of its Policy Advisory Committee. She also serves on the Gateway
Corridor Commission and Policy Advisory Committee.
Slawik took an active role in the 84 percent Coalition with Mayor Norm Coleman and others in shining a light on local
infrastructure needs. She led the City Council in adopting a Resolution of Support for this initiative which was also a
partnership with the League of Minnesota Cities to advocate for local investment.
In addition to testifying before the Committee on Transportation and Public Safety at the Legislature, she also led an effort to
adopt new revenue measures at the local level that puts an additional $1 million per year into local streets.
Ramsey County Commissioner Jim McDonough also received a Transportation Advocate Award.
