After allegedly shooting his own son, a 90 -year-old Maplewood man called 911 himself to report he'd shot and killed the
younger man. Maplewood police and fire crews were called to the 1200 block of Hilltop Court in Maplewood at 7:41 p.m.
Saturday.
They approached the home and called to whoever was inside to come out. The elderly man "came outside where he was
taken into custody without incident."
Inside, police found a dead 65 -year-old man with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect is Kenneth Henry Bowser, who has been booked into Ramsey County Jail on suspicion of homicide. His son
was Larry Kinston Bowser. Police say father and son lived together at the Hilltop Court home.
"The focus of investigators at this point is to determine exactly what prompted this tragic shooting," said Maplewood Police
Chief Paul Schnell.
"In addition to providing answers to family members and the criminal justice system, we hope to explore potential strategies
to intervene in such cases to prevent lethal acts of intra -familial violence," he added.
Another father -son incident
This is the second father -son fatal shooting in Maplewood in 18 months..
In March 2014, an 84 -year-old man shot his 36 -year-old son in a home the pair lived in on East County Road B with other
family members. The shooting had reportedly been triggered by an argument over whether the son, who owned the house,
should pay for cable TV the father wanted.
After barricading himself into the house with his son's body and holding a standoff with police for two hours, the elderly man,
Pang Vang, attempted to stab himself but survived. Chue Vang was declared dead at the scene.
Pang Vang, thought to be the oldest defendant in a murder case in Minnesota history, pleaded guilty in August, 2014.
His sentencing was scheduled for Oct. 8, 2014, but Pang Vang, who was in poor health, died Sept. 30.
Investigation ongoing
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension - Crime Lab has been called in to process evidence at the Hilltop Court
scene. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office will be performing an autopsy to officially determine the manner and
cause of death.
Investigators expect to present their preliminary investigative findings to the Ramsey County Attorney's Office on Monday.
