Maplewood to settle labor dispute for more than$100,000
The city of Maplewood recently agreed to pay more than$100,000 to settle a labor dispute with an employee fred more
than a year ago.
Maplewood City Council members late last month approved a roughly$108,000 settlement with former employee Larry
Farr, according to a copy of the settlement agreement.
The city also agreed to pay$10,000 to Farr's attorney.
Farr said he worked for the city for about eight years, serving mainly as Maplewood's chief building engineer. He was
working as a building maintenance supervisor when the city terminated him in June of 2014.
The Metro Supervisory Group filed a grievance on Farr's behalf and appealed the grievance to arbitration.Farr also made
civil claims against the city.
Under terms of the settlement,Farr agreed to provide a written, irrevocable resignation notice to the city with an effective
date of June 6,2014.He also halted all employee claims against the city and promised not to file any other related lawsuits
or proceedings.
In exchange, the city removed all documents from Farrs personnel fle related to his termination.
The agreement prohibits the city from making any comments about the reasons behind Farr's initial firing, according to
Maplewood City Manager Melinda Coleman.
Farr also declined to elaborate on what happened on the advice of his attorney.
"I am done fighting, the ones got away with what they did...which is a vague way of saying I am not happy with the way
things ended,"Farr said.
"IYs a bad situation, but I am moving on with my life,I guess."
The settlement was to avoid"potential arbitration, litigation and administrative proceeding costs and expenses,"the
agreement said.
