The county's parks and 2creation department announced it will begin construction this spring on four tuj lub(pronounced"too-loo")courts at � Keller Regional Park in Maplewood. Tuj lub,also called top-spin,is a competitive team sporl that dates to mid-78DOS China.Hmong immigrants brought the game to Minnesota in the 1970s. The sport involves launching�ops onto a walk that looks like a long-jump platform.The platfortn is divided in�o nine sleps,or stages,wi�h � different top confgurations at each stage.Using a fshing line or hard string attached to a shortened golf club,the players toss their tops in an attempt to knock down ihe opposing team's configuration. Partial funding for the projed was supplied by the state Legacy Fund.The courts should be open by ne�ct July,depending on how soon crews can stad wnstniction next spring,a spokesman for the department said. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 5 p.m.Sept.16 at Keller Golfview between the golf course and U.S.61 in Keller Regional Park.
