But iYs a relief that he's in custody." investigators have been looking for Tennin since the Aug. 23 shooting death of his wife,April Tennin,41,who was found dead in a bathroom of the home they shared with her children. She and Todd Tennin,who were married last year, had been heard arguing the night before and again shortly before her kids reported hearing a gunshot. The children discovered her body. She had been shot in the head. When police arrived,Todd Tennin was not home. His vehicle was found the next day at his sister's home in Brooklyn Park, but he was not at the residence. Maplewood police say they are investigating who helped him flee the state. "Investigators now believe that somebody locally,very quickly after he ended up at the Brooklyn Park address, provided transportation to (Tennin)and that they headed out of state,"Schnell said."And we are working to corroborate exactly who that was and where they went." IYs unclear who he was staying with in Waukegan, but public records showed he may have had family in that area, Schnell said. When he was spotted on the property, officers at the scene called him out and he surrendered without incident, Schnell said. Three children were in the Tennin home at the time of April Tennin's shooting:April Tennin's 12-year-old son, her 15-year-old daughter, and her daughter's 16-year-old boyfriend,who is also a cousin of Todd Tennin. April Tennin, a longtime Ramsey County employee, had the names of three of her children changed to Tennin about four months ago. She also had a fourth child who is an adult. Court records show that she filed for bankruptcy less than a month before her death. In those documents she refers to accounts and property shared with a separated husband, including the Dodge Challenger that Todd Tennin was seen leaving in just after gunfire rang out in the home. In a search warrant filed Tuesday, investigators said they spoke with a friend of April Tennin who said she was preparing to leave Todd Tennin. The friend "described a pattem and history of domestic abuse that April Tennin suffered at the hands of Todd Tennin,"the search warrant affidavit said."The described incidents included physical beatings,threats to kill April from Todd Tennin, and an incident where Todd Tennin placed a gun inside the mouth of April Tennin." The friend said she'd advised April Tennin to keep a joumal of what happened and provided her with domestic abuse websites. Todd Tennin,who goes by Larry, has a criminal past that includes assault and illegally possessing guns. He was most recently released from prison in May 2014. The medical examiner has not made a final determination on the manner of death, Schnell said, but investigators hope to soon present their case against Tennin for the murder of his wife to the Ramsey County attomey's office.
