Are you new to your neighborhood?
Have you taken the time to get to know who's living next door?
Do you keep an eye out for suspicious activity on your street?
Whatever your level of familiarity with your neighborhood, there's plenty to be gained by dedicating one night to touching
base with those who live nearby.
On Tuesday, Aug. 4, area communities will be teaming up with their local law enforcement agencies to celebrate the 32nd
Annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event.
Neighborhoods across the nation will be hosting block parties, giving residents an opportunity to get to know one another
better — in turn, letting vandals and burlars know they are organized and vigilant.
Police officer, firefighters and elected officials will be stopping by as many block parties as possible to help build
relationships and trust.
The National Association of Town Watch anticipates more than 37.8 million neighbors across 16,124 communities will be
participating.
Official events will run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Maplewood and North St. Paul residents interested in coordinating a block party can do so through their city's website.
Ideas for activities and events include holding a cookout, playing outdoor games, trading contact information and
organizing a talent show.
