The 16th annual WaterFest will splash down at Lake Phalen Saturday, May 30,with a
variety of educational and entertaining events.
WaterFest is hosted by the Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District,which
protects groundwater in an area that includes the cities of Shoreview, Roseville,
Vadnais Heights and Little Canada south to North St. Paul, Maplewood,Oakdale and
the East Side of St. Paul.
Events will center on the county park north of Phalen Drive and Wheelock Parkway.
With"A Water Wonderland"as its theme,WaterFest offers a free day of celebrating
water,whether learning about how to protect it or recreating on it.
A look at the main events:
• 10 a.m.and 1 p.m.,yoga on the lakeside
•11 a.m.,kickoff event with the Farnsworth Aerospace School's marching band
•during the event,Voyageur canoe rides,solar-powered pontoon rides,stand-up
paddleboard lessons
•canoes,paddleboards and kayaks available for checkout and bicycles available for
rent at a 20 percent discount
•ali-ages fishing contest,sponsored by Joe's Sporting Goods and Asian Outdoor
Heritage
•instructions and a course set for geocaching
•swimming and beach activities
•kids'entertainment, including an inflatable bounce castie
•music and dance pertormances at the WaterFest amphitheater
•information on landscaping with native plants and a native plant giveaway
•a look through a microscope at the tiny organisms that live in freshwater
•primers on invasive land and water plants
•examples of the fish,animals and amphibians in the watershed
•plenty of"fair food"to keep participants fueled and ready for fun
