with Ramsey County
Saturday is Warrant Resolution Day in Ramsey County, offering individuals with active arrest warrants for nonviolent misdemeanors an opportunity
to clear them up.
Judges, prosecutors and public defenders will be present from 9 a.m.to 7 p.m.at Aldrich Arena in Maplewood.
The event is a frst for Ramsey County, but similar"Fugitive Safe Surrender"days have been successful in communities throughout Minnesota and
the United States, according to a statement from the county."We encourage anyone with a warrant to take advantage of this opportunity--and let
others know,too--an event like this may not be offered again."
There are approximately 4,500 active misdemeanor warrants in Ramsey County, for such offenses as traffic violations, disorderly conduct and petty
theft, according to the county.Warrants do not expire and remain on offcial records until they are resolved.
"Anyone with an active warrant can be arrested at any time,"said Sheriff Matt Bostrom."Being arrested because of a misdemeanor warrant is
costly, inconvenient and embarrassing. It can mean spending a night or two in jail, having a vehicle towed and impounded and missing work or
school. This event will help people who come forward to avoid those burdens later."
Ramsey County Attorney John Choi adds:"Spending a couple of hours with us on May 2 can save the grief of a couple of days or more later.
Those who want to participate can simply show up at the arena--with a photo ID and contact information for another person for verification
purposes--or call 651-266-9320 to set up an appointment or sign up online at RamseyWarrants.us.
