Stone Temple Pilots(sans Scott Weiland)to play the Myth
Grunge-era rockers Stone Temple Pilots will return to the Twin Cities on Sept.25 with a new face up
front.
Tickets for the concert,at the Myth in Maplewood,are$32 and go on sale at 10 a.m.Friday through
Ticketmaster.
Linkin Park's lead singer Chester Bennington joined STP in 2013 and has toured sporadically with the
group in the time since. He also recorded a five-song EP,"High Rise,"with the band and is currently
working on new material with them.
Stone Temple Pilots emerged in 1992 with"Core,"an album that went on to sell 8 million copies and
spawn the hits"Sex Type Thing,""Plush"and"Creep."Despite the band's success,vocalist Scott
Weiland struggled with substance abuse and was busted for crack cocaine in 1995 and drunken driving
two years later.
After the final show of the band's 2002 tour in support of their fifth album"Shangri-La Dee Da,"Weiland
got in a fight with guitarist Dean DeLeo that led to the end of the band.Weiland went on to join the
supergroup Velvet Revolver, while DeLeo and his brother Robert formed Army of Anyone with Filter's
Richard Patrick.
In 2008,Stone Temple Pilots reunited, hit the road and eventually recorded a new self-titled album.
Tensions arose once again, and in 2013,the band announced they had fired Weiland. In a recent
interview,Dean DeLeo said:"There are people that are still perplexed about why Scott is no longer in the
band.If you're anywhere close to our circle, the answer would be evident."
