Police in Maplewood are investigating lhe death.of an 18-month-old girl after they tound her unresponsive with bruises on her
body and face et a home on Thursday.
Parametlics tned to resuscitate lhe gid,who was found in a besement bedroom,but they were nol successful.
Two men who were in the house,located in the 2500 block of Barcley Street,were delained and queationed.One of the men,
Leb Mike Meak,35,of Maplewood,was arrested on suspicion ot homicide end was in Ihe Ramsey County jail.The other man
was released � � �
The child's name is not being released until next of kin can be notified.Police said the suspect,Meak,is the boyfriend of the
child's mother end is not the biological tather.The couple do not live together,police said.
Investigators will present preliminary findings to the Ramsey County medical examinefs oftice on Friday,end the coroner will
conduct an autopsy and try to detertnine the cause of death.
"Even while investigators work lo determine exactly what happened to this little girl,no answer will mesk the tragedy of her

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting in the case.
