At 11:03 Thursday morning, Maplewood police and fire responders were called to a home where a baby was reportedly not
breathing.
At the home in the 2500 block of Barclay Street they found an 18 -month-old girl in a basement bedroom. The child was
unresponsive and was not breathing.
Paramedics attempted to save her life, but the girl was declared dead at the scene.
Paramedics and police responding reported seeing multiple bruises on the child's body and face.
Two men who were in the home with the baby at the time were taken to the Maplewood Police Department for questioning.
After talking with investigators, one of the men, Leb Mike Meak, age 35, of Maplewood, was subsequently arrested on
suspicion of homicide and booked into the Ramsey County Jail.
Meak is reportedly the boyfriend of the child's mother and is not the biological father of the child.
The other man was questioned and released.
Maplewood Police investigators and agents from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Investigation are actively investigating
the death.
Investigators expect to present their preliminary investigation to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office Friday.
"Few crimes are more disturbing than the death of child at the hands of a caregiver," said Maplewood Police Chief Paul
Schnell.
