Exploring the fur trade era
A special program, Fur Trade Heritage,will be presented Saturday, Jan. 30, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Maplewood Nature
Center, 2659 E. Seventh St.
This event is best for adults and kids ages 6 and up.Attendees will assume the persona of a voyageur from this historical era
and examine historical replicas of fur trade items.
They will make a spark from flint and steel, drill a hole with a pump drill. Kids can try on a capote and moustache and practice
their French accent.
Small Scout groups are welcome. Snowshoe rental available afterward. The cost is $5 per family, prepay by Jan. 28.

Snowshoe hike
For a winter wonderland adventure, head to the Maplewood Nature Center, 2659 E. Seventh St., from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 13, for a snowshoe hike.
This event is best for, children, ages 4 and up, accompanied by an adult. They will learn about snowshoes, strap on a pair, and
walk with a naturalist through the woods. Snowshoes will be provided.
Participants should wear sturdy winter boots and bring their own mug for hot cocoa. If snow is scarce,the group will hike to
search for animal tracks. The cost is$5 per person, prepay by Feb. 12. To register go
