EST January 4, 2016 (Photo: Maplewood Police) MAPLEWOOD, Minn. -- Police are asking for the public's help finding the suspects in a violent home invasion in Maplewood. Police say they were called to a home in the 1700 block of Gervais Avenue around 1 p.m. on Jan. 2 on a report of a robbery. When officers arrived, they met the 75 -year-old victim who said she was about to leave her house when she heard the doorbell ring. She told police that the woman at the door asked to use her phone, and when she refused, the woman pulled out a handgun, pointed it at her and entered her home. According to the police report, the woman then made a call from her own cell phone and a few minutes later, two men arrived. Police say one of the men bound the victim's hands while the others ransacked her home, taking jewelry, credit cards, keys and her driver's license. Before the suspects left the home, one of the men told the victim to get on the floor and proceeded to wrap an article of clothing around her neck, strangling her to the point of unconsciousness, according to authorities. The victim regained consciousness and went to a neighbor's house to call police. Authorities say they are trying to determine if the incident is connected to the burglary of a nearby occupied residence in late December. Police released photos taken from store surveillance video in which authorities say the male suspects used credit cards that were taken during either the December burglary or the January home invasion robbery. Anyone with information is asked to call 651-767-0640 or 911. Anonymous text message tips can be sent by texting the word "Maplewood" and the tip to TIP411 (847411).
