CALL TO ORDER A meeting of the Environmental and Natural Resources Commission was called to order at 7:04 p.m. by Chair Palzer. 2. ROLL CALL Randee Edmundson, Commissioner Present Deborah Fideldy, Commissioner Present Mollie Miller, Commissioner Present Ann Palzer, Chair Present Tom Sinn, Commissioner Present Dale Trippler, Vice Chair Present Ginny Yingling, Commissioner Present Staff Present Shann Finwall, Environmental Planner Ginny Gaynor, Natural Resource Coordinator Ann Hutchinson, Lead Naturalist City Council Liaison Present Kathleen Juenemann, City Councilmember 3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Commissioner Trippler moved to approve the agenda as submitted. Seconded by Commissioner Miller. Ayes – All The motion passed. 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Trippler moved to approve the December 15, 2014, Environmental and Natural Resources Commission meeting minutes as submitted. Seconded by Commissioner Fideldy. Ayes –Commissioner’s Edmundson, Fideldy, Miller, Sinn, Trippler, & Yingling Abstention – Chairperson Palzer The motion passed. February 25, 2015 Environmental and Natural Resources Commission Meeting Minutes 25. NEW BUSINESS a. Election of Chair and Vice Chair i. Environmental Planner, Shann Finwall gave the report on the election of chair and vice chair. Commissioner Edmundson moved to elect Dale Trippler as Chair of the ENR Commission for 2015. Seconded by Commissioner Miller. Ayes – All The motion passed. Commissioner Trippler nominated Mollie Miller as Vice Chair. Commissioner Yingling nominated Tom Sinn as Vice Chair. Both Commissioner Miller and Commissioner Sinn accepted the nominations to serve as vice chair. The Commission voted for Vice Chair via a private vote. Environmental Planner Finwall counted the vote results. Commissioner Miller received six votes for Vice Chair and Commissioner Sinn received one vote for Vice Chair. Commissioner Miller was appointed as the Vice Chair of the ENR Commission for 2015.. Dale Trippler ran the remainder of the ENR meeting from this point on as the new chair. b. Tennis Sanitation, LLC, Annual Recycling Performance Review i. Environmental Planner, Shann Finwall gave the report on the annual recycling performance review. ii. David Domack, Tennis Sanitation, addressed and answered questions of the commission regarding the City’s recycling program. iii. City Council Liaison, Kathleen Juenemann addressed the commission. The Commission touched on the following issues during their review with Tennis Sanitation:  Recycling education  National Night Out  Plastic bag recycling  How can we get non- and low-participating residents to recycle?  How are the recycling markets doing?  The annual report should include pictures of Maplewood  The conversions of amount recycled to a real life object like trees saved is beneficial, however, you should convert to gasoline, not oil.  The totals for the year on the charts should be moved to the first column so it is easier to read The ENR Commission thanked Tennis Sanitation for their continued efforts to improve the City’s recycling program. The recycling annual review will go to the city council on March 9, 2015. February 25, 2015 Environmental and Natural Resources Commission Meeting Minutes 3 c. 2015 ENR Commission Goal Setting i. Environmental Planner, Shann Finwall gave the report on the 2015 goal setting for the ENR Commission. ii. Lead Naturalist, Ann Hutchinson gave the report on the 2015 goals for the Maplewood Nature Center. iii. Natural Resource Coordinator, Ginny Gaynor gave the report on the natural resource projects for 2015. iv. City Council Liaison, Kathleen Juenemann addressed the commission and thanked them for their service and dedication to support the City in its environmental initiatives. The Commission held a brainstorming activity to narrow down three main goals for 2015 as follows:  Environmental Education  Urban Agriculture  Storm Water Management d. 2014 ENR Commission Annual Report i. Environmental Planner, Shann Finwall gave the 2014 ENR Commission Annual Report. Commissioner Palzer moved to approve the 2014 ENR Commission Annual Report. Seconded by Commissioner Miller. Ayes – All The motion passed. This item will go to the city council on March 9, 2015. 6. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None. 7. VISITOR PRESENTATIONS None present. 8. COMMISSION PRESENTATIONS a. Harambee Community Cultures Environmental Science School – Commissioner Miller gave the Commission an update on the Harambee Community Cultures Environmental Science School and the environmental projects they are undertaking. Commissioner Miller’s son attends the school. Commissioner Miller would like to invite the environmental teacher to a future Commission meeting to discuss how the Commission and school might partner in future environmental project. 9. STAFF PRESENTATIONS a. The March ENR Commission meeting has been rescheduled to Thursday, March 26, 2015. b. Nature Center Programs February 25, 2015 Environmental and Natural Resources Commission Meeting Minutes 4i. Environmental Planner, Shann Finwall presented the upcoming Nature Center Programs.
