A. CALL TO ORDER
A meeting of the Commission was held in the City Hall Council Chambers and was called to order
at 7:00 PM by Chairperson Danielson.

C. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Item F2 – Discussion on Integrative Youth Development Program (My Five) Community Forum
was removed from the agenda.
Commissioner Deeny moved to approve the agenda as amended.
Seconded by Commissioner Brandt Ayes - All
The motion passed.
D. APP ROVAL OF MINUTES
1. Approval of the September 9, 2014 HRC Minutes
Commissioner Fortin moved to approve the September 9, 2014 HRC Minutes, as submitted.
Seconded by Commissioner Deeny Ayes – All

1. Presentation on Domestic Violence Awareness - Tubman Family Alliance (No
Report)
Commissioner Garza introduced Katie from Tubman Family Alliance, who addressed the
Commission on the issue of domestic violence and answered questions from Commission
members.
2. Human Rights in the News – Review/Update on Upcoming Forums/Reports on
Forums or Meetings Attended or Other Related HR Issues (No Report)
Commissioner Brandt discussed an event held at the Shoreview Community Center “Bullying in
our Community”, held on Thursday November 6th at 6:00pm.
Commissioner Deeny proposed the Commission work with City Council to approve a Resolution
to have the City of Maplewood recognize Indigenous People Day instead of Columbus Day.
Commissioner Deeny moved to request City Council approve a Resolution to recognize
Indigenous Peoples’ Day as an alternative to Columbus Day.
Seconded by Commissioner Garza Ayes – All
The motion passed.
F. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
1. Discussion on Student Video Essay Contest (No Report)
Chairperson Danielson and Commissioner Fortin discussed details of the video essay contest.
G. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS / STAFF PRESENTATIONS
1. Public Official Conduct and the Open Meeting Law
Staff Liaison, Karen Haag gave a presentation to the Commission relating to Public Official
Conduct and the Open Meeting Law and answered questions of the Commission.
2. Discussion on Rescheduling the November 11, 2014 Human Rights Commission
Meeting
Commission members discussed a date to reschedule the November 11th HRC meeting and
decided on a tentative date of Thursday, November 20, 2014.
