A. CALL TO ORDER
A meeting of the Commission was held in the City Hall Council Chambers and was called to order
at 7:02 PM by Chairperson Danielson.
Commissioner Elizabeth “Marie” Garza took the Oath of Office, administered by Karen Guilfoile,
Maplewood City Clerk.
Commissioner Annastacia Belladonna-Carrera took the Oath of Office, administered by Karen
Guilfoile, Maplewood City Clerk.

C. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Item G1. Public Official Conduct and the Open Meeting Law was removed from the agenda.
Commissioner Deeny moved to approve the agenda as amended.
Seconded by Commissioner Fortin Ayes - All
The motion passed.
D. APP ROVAL OF MINUTES
1. Approval of the May 13, 2014 HRC Minutes
Chairperson Danielson recommended the change of the incorrect use of Commissioner Garza’s
name to Marie instead of Maria.
Commissioner Garza moved to approve the May 13, 2014 HRC Minutes as amended.

E. NEW BUSINESS
1. Human Rights in the News - Review/Update on Upcoming Forums/Report on
Forums or Meetings Attended or Other Related HR Issues (No Report)
Commissioners took turns speaking on recent topics relevant to human rights issues that have
occurred in the news and legislature.
F. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
1. Discussion of Future Goals for Upcoming Meetings
Commissioner Deeny led a discussion on preparing future goals for upcoming commission
meetings and outreach strategies. Commissioners presented topics and goals for upcoming
meetings. Final ad hoc committee members was determined, consisting of Commissioner
Deeny, Garza, and Belladonna-Carerra
Police Chief Schnell gave a brief introduction to the Integrative Youth Development Program that
has been approved by Council to reach out to the city’s youth. Questions from the
Commissioners were answered.
Chairperson Danielson recommended forming an ad hoc committee to begin preparations to host
a forum with the City Council to lead a discussion with the public on the Integrative Youth
Development Program. The ad hoc committee members consist of Chairperson Danielson,
Commissioner Brandt and Commissioner Belladonna-Carerra.
Commissioners raised the question the role of the Commission in investigating human rights
issues or problems that arise in the City.
Commissioner Brandt recommended forming an ad hoc committee for the fall’s Student Essay
Contest, and continuation of the contest was discussed. An ad hoc committee will be formed in
July for a “school connection”, instead.
G. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS / STAFF PRESENTATIONS
2. Review and Approval of Human Rights Commission Annual Report
Staff Liaison, Guilfoile presented the Human Rights Commission Annual Report to the
commission. The report will be brought to Council at the June 23, 2014 council meeting.
Commissioner Brandt acknowledged that former Commissioner Jeff Kringle was no longer part of
the Human Rights Commission, and thanked him for his many years of service to the
Commission.
