CALL TO ORDER A meeting of the Commission was held in the City Hall Council Chambers and was called to order at 7:01 p.m. by Chairperson Danielson. B. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Commissioner Kringle moved to approve the agenda as submitted. AP PROVAL OF MINUTES 1.Approval of the April 8, 2014 HRC Minutes Commissioner Kringle moved to approve the April 8, 2014 HRC Minutes as submitted. NEW BUSINESS 1.2014 Student Art Contest Ceremony Commissioners took turns introducing the student art contest winners. Each contest winner presented their art to the audience. 2.Update on the Edgerton Park Meeting Parks Manager James Taylor gave an update on the update and outcome of the planned reinstatement of basketball hoops at Edgerton Park 3.Human Rights in the News a)Review/Update on Upcoming Forums/Reports on Forums or Meetings Attended or Other Related HR Issues The Commissioners each spoke on events and issues in the news which pertain to human and civil rights. The following items will be covered in the presentation: • The Gift Law • Open Meeting Law • Data Practices Act • Public Hearings • Social Media HRC Packet Page Number 5 of 8 G2 AGENDA REPORT TO: HRC Commissioners FROM: Karen Guilfoile, Citizen Services Director/Staff Liaison DATE: May 29, 2014 SUBJECT: Review and Approval of Human Rights Commission Annual Report Introduction: Maplewood City Code of Ordinances, as it relates to the Human Rights Commission, dictates that the commission submits a report to the City Council on a semi-annual basis. Sec. 2-190. Duties and Responsibilities states the following: Sec. 2-190. Duties and Responsibilities (6) Prepare and submit a report to the city council on a semi-annual basis, describing its actions and activities during the year, along with recommendations for changes which the commission may deem desirable.
