They will present independently with information that describes the economic, demographic, income and education statistics of Ramsey County and Maplewood. This presentation will provide very useful information as we move forward with our vision and planning for the City of Maplewood. Background The department heads and City Manager heard the Ramsey County presentation on Economic Prosperity a few months ago and we believe that the information tells a compelling story about the economic needs and challenges in the county and our place in the metropolitan area. Additionally, City Manager Ahl and I met with Matt Kramer and Jonathan Weinhagen from the Saint Paul Chamber to discuss employment demographics and to hear about their business assessment of Maplewood. Their findings and statistics were very telling. Some of the information, such as the impact of 3M in our community, was not surprising but there is other information regarding types of employment, educational attainment, commuting patterns and much more that was new information. We believe that you will find both presentations to be enlightening and useful as we begin this year’s strategic planning process. Budget Impact None Recommendation There is no action required.
