HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012 04-10 HRC Minutes MINUTES CITY OF MAPLEWOOD HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2012 Council Chambers, Maplewood City Hall 1830 County Road B East 1. CALL TO ORDER A meeting of the Commission was held in the City Hall Council Chambers and was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairperson Brandt. 2. ROLL CALL Jon Brandt, Chairperson Present Jeffrey Kringle, Commissioner Present Arianne Maxwell, Commissioner Present Marie Ridgeway, Commissioner Present There are currently three Commission seats that are open. City Clerk Guilfoile was also present. 3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Commissioner Kringle moved to approve the agenda as amended. Seconded by Commissioner Ridgeway Ayes – All The motion passed. 4. Approval of Minutes. Commissioner Kringle moved to approve the minutes as submitted. Seconded by Commission Ridgeway Ayes - All 5. NEW BUSINESS 1. Discussion was held regarding the Voter ID Amendment and if the Commission should conduct an educational forum on the issue. Further discussion will be held at the May 8, 2012 meeting. 2. Commissioners Brandt and Maxwell provided information on conducting public education forums on the marriage amendment ballot initiative. Commissioner Brandt will be presenting a report to the city council at the May 14, 2012 council meeting requesting their input and direction on how involved the Commission should be involved and to garner council support on conducting the forums. Commissioners will continue to independently gather information and present it to the HRC at the May meeting. Clerk Guilfoile will work with the Maplewood Community Center to tentatively reserve space to conduct two forums one in the theater and one in the banquet room and will report back to the Commission at the May meeting. 6. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None. 7. VISITOR PRESENTATIONS Bob Zick, North St. Paul 8. COMMISSION PRESENTATIONS None 9. STAFF PRESENTATIONS 1. City Clerk Guilfoile polled the Commission to see if they wanted to continue with a 7:00 p.m. start time. The general consensus was to continue meeting at 7:00 p.m. 10. ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Ridgeway moved to adjourn seconded by Commissioner Kringle at 7:35 p.m.
