CALL TO ORDER A meeting of the Commission was held in the City Hall Council Chambers and was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairperson Kringle. 2. ROLL CALL Commissioners Jon Brandt, Commissioner Present William Joanis, Commissioner Present Jeffrey Kringle, Chairperson Present Arianne Maxwell, Commissioner Present Marie Ridgeway, Commissioner Present Laurie Rose Simon, Commissioner Absent Charlotte Winnen, Commissioner Present Staff Karen Guilfoile, City Clerk 3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Commissioner Joanis recommended changing 6. i. to 6. c. Commissioner Joanis moved to approve the agenda as amended. Seconded by Commissioner Winnen. Ayes – All The motion passed. 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Approval of the June 14, 2011, Human Rights Commission Meeting Minutes. Commissioner Joanis moved to approve the June 14, 2011, Human Rights Commission Minutes as submitted. Seconded by Commissioner Maxwell. Ayes – All The motion passed. 5. NEW BUSINESS None. July 12, 2011 Human Rights Commission Meeting Minutes 2 6. UNFINISHED BUSINESS a. Art and Essay Contest Winners – No Report i. City Clerk, Director of Citizens Services, Karen Guilfoile gave a brief update on the Art and Essay Contest Winners. b. Discussion on Review of the HRC Pamphlet and Mission Statement i. The commission as a whole discussed the review of the HRC Pamphlet and Mission Statement. ii. City Clerk, Director of Citizen Services, Karen Guilfoile commented on the changes to the pamphlet. Commissioner Ridgeway moved to eliminate information in the Taste of Maplewood brochure regarding how to bring a concern to the commission. Seconded by Commissioner Brandt. Ayes – All The motion passed. c. Procedures for individuals to File Complaints i. The commission discussed this item. ii. City Clerk, Director of Citizen Services addressed the commission regarding this item. Commissioner Brandt moved to table this to the next meeting. The commission appoints Commissioner Joanis as the attorney to meet with the city attorney to develop a draft for the procedures for the individuals to file complaints. Seconded by Commissioner Winnen. Ayes – All The motion passed. 7. COMMISSION PRESENTATIONS Commissioner Brandt discussed the human rights ordinance. He also discussed the responsibilities to serve on the human rights commission for Maplewood as well as other cities. 8. STAFF PRESENTATIONS None. 9. VISITOR PRESENTATIONS None. 10. ADJOURNMENT Chairperson Kringle adjourned the meeting at 7:39 p.m.
