ROLL CALL rnmmiccinnorc Commissioner Craig Brannon, present Commissioner Don Christianson, present Commissioner Peter Fischer, present Commissioner Dan Maas, present Chair Bruce Roman, present Commissioner Therese Sonnek, present Commissioner Roy Adams, present Commissioner RJ Erhardt, present Commissioner Kim Schmidt, present Sta Parks Manager, Jim Taylor, present 3. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA Chair Roman moved to remove item 6C -Fish Creek from the Seconded by Commissioner Fischer Ayes: All Commissioner Schmidt moved to approve the agenda as amended. Seconded by Commissioner Fischer Ayes: All 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Fischer requested a change under Roll Call; the minutes stated that he was present when in fact he was absent. Commissioner Sonnek requested that "as a member of the White Bear Lake library they have free computer classes" be corrected to "as a member of the Ramsey County library they have free computer classes." 1 Commissioner Brannon moved to ai Seconded by Commissioner Erhardt 671& 1 IF- AIICL a. 6. UNFINISHED BUSINESS a. Gethsemane Park Ayes: All Abstain: Fischer, Christianson Jim Taylor, Parks Manager, presented the information regarding the process for choosing the park. He presented which park the residents and the school chose. He showed the park equipment that is currently at the site in comparison to the park equipment that was chosen by the residents and a group of student representatives from Gethsemane School. The Commission discussed and commented on Gethsemane Park. Staff recommends that the Parks and Recreation Commission make a motion of support for the Flannigan Sales Little Tike Proposal that was selected by the residents of the neighborhood and the student representatives from Gethsemane School. Chair Roman moved to recommend what the neighborhood people and the students selected. Seconded by Commissioner Fischer Ayes: All b. Dog Park Review Chair Roman wanted to discuss with the Commission the good and the bad points of the Dog Park located at Four Seasons Park. The Commission discussed and commented on the Dog Park. The Commission requested that Staff report back with the various Dog Park possibilities discussed in the meeting. Commissioner Fischer moved to extend the Dog Park through the 2012 season. Seconded by Chair Roman Ayes: All c. Gladstone Savannah Timeline Jim Taylor, Parks Manager, updated the Commission on the Gladstone Savannah Timeline of events that will occur throughout various phases of the project at the site. The Commission discussed and commented on the Gladstone Savannah Timeline. 7. NEW BUSINESS a. 8. STAFF PRESENTATIONS a. Spring Cleanup Update the minutes as amended. 2 Jim Taylor, Parks Manager, updated the Commission on the progress of the Spring Cleanup that is to take place on Saturday, April 21, 2012. b. Sponsorships at Goodrich Park Jim Taylor, Parks Manager, updated the Commission on the Sponsorships at Goodrich Park. The Commission discussed the Sponsorships at Goodrich Park. c. Arbor Day at Lion's Park Jim Taylor, Parks Manager, updated the Commission on Arbor Day at Lion's Park that takes place on Saturday, May 12, 2012. 9. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS Commissioner Sonnek wanted to remind the residents that there are the two Geocaching classes coming up. One is at the Maplewood Library on May 12, 2012, Arbor Day, in the afternoon, so people will still have time to participate in the tree planting and then learn how to find the caches hidden in the trees. The class is free and to call the Maplewood Library to register. There is another class May 9, 2012, Wednesday night at 7:OOPM at the Roseville Library. Commissioner Schmidt inquired if Staff could send out an email the night before the neighborhood meetings as a brief reminder. Commissioner Brannon asked if there was an email list that is used for the Parks Cleanup. The last two years by the time it gets to the boy scouts, the activities are already planned out. He inquired about a mailing list that is sent out for that activity. Jim Taylor, Parks Manager, stated that his list includes all of the current athletic association contacts. The information is also put in the Maplewood Monthly and on the website. He would like to expand the list to get the information sent to other groups. He asked for help in getting more contact information so the list can be expanded. Commissioner Maas stated that he thinks his term for the Parks and Recreation Commission is up and that this is his last meeting. He wanted to say that it has been a pleasure serving with the Commission and working with the Staff on everything and that he has enjoyed his time here. Chair Roman asked Commissioner Mass how long he has served on the Commission. Commissioner Mass responded that it has been about three years. Chair Roman thanked Commissioner Mass for his service on the Commission and wished him luck for the future and his family. Chair Roman also added that he would like to thank everyone at the Nature Center. They had an open house that was well attended with good information presented at the event. Commissioner Schmidt stated that summer swim lesson registration is going on now at the Maplewood Community Center. 10. ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Fischer moved to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Commissioner Brannon Ayes: All The meeting was adjourned. Next meeting is May 16, 2012.
