There may be a quorum of the Historical Preservation Commissioners at the Historical Preservation Commissioners in
attendance at the Maplewood Area Historical Society meeting on May 9,2012 at 7:00 p.m. The Maplewood Area Historical
Society meetings are held at the Bruentrup Heritage Farm, 2170 County Road D, Maplewood.

1. CALL TO ORDER
A meeting of the Commission was held in the City Hall Council Chambers and was called to order
at 7:00 p.m. by Chairperson Boulay.

Commissioner Galbraith moved to approve the January 12. 2012. HPC minutes as submitted.

6. VISITOR PRESENTATIONS
a. Dean Urdahl, Minnesota State House Representative addressed the commission. He
spoke about grants and legacy funding through the State of Minnesota and about
books on the Dakota War.
7. OLD BUSINESS
a. HPC Heritage Award Nominations for 2011 - Discussion Only
i. Mr. Fisher stated that Char Wasiluk was awarded the HPC Heritage Award for 2011.
b. HPC 2012 Goal Setting
i. Mr. Fisher briefly discussed the HPC 2012 Goal Setting. The commission thought the list
looked fine.
Commissioner Aurelius moved to approve the HPC Qoals for 2012.
Seconded by Commissioner Currie.

c. HWY 36 Overpass & Memorandum of Agree

Staff reviewed the list of historic sites. The commission made some corrections to the list which
staff will make.
Commissioner Aurelius moved to accept the Forest Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum as the first
national reQister'historical site.
Seconded by Commissioner Galbraith,

e. Local Government Certification Status
i. Mr. Fisher discussed the Local Government Certification Status. Staff recommended that
a member of the HPC should go to the other boards and commissions to discuss the HPC
Certification Status.

8. NEW BUSINESS
a. HPC Terms - AI Galbraith's Resignation
AI Galbraith gave his resignation in February however; Commissioner Galbraith will serve on the
HPC through the remainder of his term.
9. COMMISSION PRESENTATIONS.
None.
10. MAPLEWOOD AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY
a. Bob Jensen, Vice President, Maplewood Area Historical Society gave an update.
The old fashioned quilting bee scheduled for March 17,2012, at the Bruentrup Heritage Farm has
been cancelled.
Chairperson Pete Boulay Will be giving an educational talk at the Maplewood Library at 3025
Southlawn Drive on March 20, 2012, from 7-9 p.m.
