CALL TO ORDER A meeting of the City Council was held in the City Hall Council Chambers and was called to order at 5:15 p.m. by Mayor Rossbach. B. ROLL CALL C. E. Will Rossbach, Mayor Kathleen Juenemann, Councilmember Marvin Koppen, Councilmember James Llanas, Councilmember John Nephew, Councilmember APPROVAL OF AGENDA Councilmember Nephew moved to app Seconded by Councilmember Koppen The motion passed. Board & Commission Interviews Ayes — All The council interviewed the following four candidates for the Environmental & Natural Resources Commission: 1. Nick Nelson 2. Judith Johannessen 3. Bill Schreiner The council interviewed the following candidate for reappointment to the Housing Redevelopment Authority Commission: 1. Gary Pearson NEW BUSINESS 1. Discussion on Stop Sign Policy Assistant City Engineer Steve Love updated the council on a recent stop sign petition from the Stanich Neighborhood. City Engineer/Deputy Public Works Director Michael Thompson presented the staff report and answered questions of the council. September 26, 2011 1 City Council Manager Workshop Minutes 2. Discussion on Renaming a Maplewood Park to Veterans Memorial Park Recreation Supervisor James Taylor presented the staff report and answered questions of the council. F. ADJOURNMENT Mayor Rossbach adjourned the meeting at 6:40 p.m. September 26, 2011 2 City Council Manager Workshop Minutes For The Permanent Record p �� Meeting Date: 2 -I / ( Agenda Item#:/ Price Avenue and Ruth Street Stop Sign Request • Brought before the Council for consideration at the July 11, 2011 o Prior to this the meeting two forms of notifications utilized A letter was mailed to the residents of the neighborhood regarding the petition ■ An article was published in the July Maplewood Monthly o Both detailing the petition request • Study Update o Following the July 111h meeting Council asked for staff to provide additional information on several items that were brought up during the Council meeting ■ Current speed conditions and increased speeding by students and during events held at the Aldrich Arena • Currently in the process of gathering existing speed data o Speed data was gathered in August prior to school starting o Speed data was also gathered in August during which time Aldrich Arena was hosting an event o Currently speed data is being gathered now that school is back in session • This data will be analyzed and reviewed prior to the sending of a mailing to the residents to poll the neighborhood on a proposed staff recommendation for the intersection ■ The original petition that was mentioned during the July 11th council meeting is currently being researched ■ 12 months of crash history was researched for the Price & Ruth intersection, Kingston & Ruth intersection, and the Kingston and Hazel intersection at the time of the original report • No records were found of crashes susceptible to correction by an all - way stop sign • Additional crash history will be provided to the council as requested when this item is brought back before the council o Staff will bring back this item to the council with detailed information on these items upon the completion of the additional research before the end of the year
