CALL TO ORDER A meeting of the Commission was held in the City Hall Council Chambers and was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairperson Boulay. 2. ROLL CALL Caleb Anderson, Commissioner Lucille Aurelius, Commissioner Peter Boulay, Chairperson Robert Creager, Commissioner Richard Currie, Commissioner AI Galbraith, Commissioner Brenda Rudberg, Commissioner Present Absent Present Absent Present Absent Present Staff Present: David Fisher, Building Official 3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Chairperson Boulay added 8. c. Demolition of New Canada Town Hall. Staff added 8. d. Gladstone Shops/Savanna. Commissioner Currie moved to approve the aqenda as amended. Seconded by Commissioner Anderson. Ayes - All The motion passed. 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Currie moved to approve the Julv 14. 2011. HPC minutes as submitted. Seconded by Commissioner Rudberg. Ayes - All The motion passed. 5. Chair Opening Statements/Presentations None. 6. VISITOR PRESENTATIONS a. Jeff Schadt, Guest Speaker Jeff Schadt is a 58 year resident of Maplewood. He served 32 years on the Maplewood Fire Department before retiring in 2008. Jeff then shared the history of his life in Maplewood. You can watch the meeting online or purchase a DVD by putting in a data request in the city clerk's office for further information. Carolyn Peterson, Maplewood Historical Society Carolyn stated a year ago she asked the HPC that the Fish Creek Land in south Maplewood be added to the list of historical places to preserve. The city council voted ayes all August 23, 2011, to purchase the Fish Creek Greenway which is 70 acres of land and is part of a national park. Carolyn presented a kite to Char Wasiluk to fly kites together at Fish Creek. Char Wasil uk spoke briefly as well. 7. OLD BUSINESS a. Frost Avenue Bridge Discussion Only Dave Fisher discussed the Frost Avenue Bridge and shared photos with the group. b. Future HPC Meetings Discussion Only This item will be discussed at the September 8, 2011, HPC meeting due to lack of members present. 8. NEW BUSINESS a. Minutes format Discussion Only Dave discussed since Lois Behm is no longer typing the minutes there has been a change in the abbreviated version of the minutes done by the recording secretary. Staff stated as a courtesy, staff requests an additional DVD for speakers who speak at the HPC meeting. b. Resolution of Appreciation for Lois Behm Dave discussed the resolution of appreciation for Lois Behm which will be passed along to the city council for approval. c. Demolition of New Canada Town Hall Pete described demolition of the New Canada Town Hall on the north side of Frost Avenue which is across the street from the old city hall that was the Gladstone Catering and a furniture store and has been vacant for many years. d. Gladstone Shops/Savanna Pete discussed the Gladstone area where the shops were. There will be a meeting on Tuesday August 30, 2011, at the Maplewood Community Center at 6:30 p.m. to give the background about the project and get input. Then another meeting on Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at 6 p.m. on the history of the site and at 7 p.m. there will be a site walk through. 9. MAPLEWOOD AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY (heard out of order) a. August 13, 2011, 10:00 - 11 :00 a.m. Pete Boulay will lead a walking tour of the Historic Ramsey County Poor Farm and Cemetery. Pete said about 15 people showed up for the Gladstone tour. He also mentioned the upcoming Historic Ramsey County Poor Farm and Cemetery walking tour. Parking will be in the Ramsey County District Court parking. August 14, 2011, Open House of the Bruentrup Farm and The Gladstone Exhibit Noon to 4:00 p.m. Pete discussed the open house of the Bruentrup Farm and Gladstone Exhibit on August 14, 2011 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Carolyn talked about Johnny Appleseed Day, Saturday, September 17, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bruentrup Farm. 10.
